PROFESSOR

Yvan Leanza, M.Ps., Dr., directs the Psychology and Cultures Laboratory. After several migratory movements between Switzerland and Canada, he is currently professor at the School of Psychology at Laval University (Quebec) where he teaches intercultural psychology and intercultural intervention. His research interests focus on the activity of health professionals in a multicultural context: the relationship to the Other as it is staged in the daily practice and the work with an interpreter, a collaborator often forgotten or considered transparent; as well as the study of sleep in a comparative intercultural perspective. Former assistant  of Profs. Pierre Dasen, Christiane Perregaux, Micheline Rey and Christina Alleman-Ghionda of the University of Geneva, he was also postdoctoral fellow (2004-2005) at McGill University in two departments of the Faculty of Medicine: the Social and Transcultural Psychiatry Division (Prof. L. Kirmayer) and the Family Medicine Department (Prof. E. Rosenberg).

Participating in the International Association for InterCultural Research (ARIC) since the 90s, he was elected member of the Council of this scientific association from 1999 to 2001, then again from 2009 to 2013. He was the co-publisher (with the Prof. T. Ogay from the University of Friburg, Switzerland, and Prof. L. Collès, from the University of Louvain, Belgium) and then the only publisher of the ARIC newsletter between 2005 and 2009. He is a the founders and the first director of the scholarly (peer-reviewed) journal which replaces the newsletter: Alterstice – International Review of Intercultural Research (www.alterstice.org).
