While life expectancy continues to increase in the general population and more and more of our elderlies are discovering the largely unknown continent of the "fourth age", the study of aging needs to be addressed in all its dimensions and complexity. The work that we propose here is to demonstrate the importance of comparing, in this area, experiments, theoretical positions, methodologies and diverse cultural practices to revitalize a symbolic field that does only not trap the elders in sterilizing representations, but also constitutes a risk to each of us in our desire to "age well".
