Research title: The lived experience of sleep difficulties in couple relationship in Canada and in Brazil: a cross-cultural comparative study between Quebec City and Fortaleza.

Research objective: This research addresses sleep difficulties in heterosexual adult couple relationships with no children at home from Quebec (Canada) and Fortaleza (Brazil), aiming to comprehend and describe this phenomenon through a critical cross-cultural and comparative analysis. Furthermore, it will help to highlight and to incorporate new knowledge in theory and practice on couples’ sleep topic across numerous disciplines (e.g., psychology, medicine, anthropology, sociology).

Research project committee: Dr. Yvan Leanza (supervisor), Dr. Annie Vallières (co-supervisor), Marguerite Lavallée and Dr. Francine Saillant (members).

Research and intervention interests: I am interested in clinical practice in a humanistic-phenomenological approach, and in qualitative and cross-cultural comparative research work in psychology and psychopathology. The themes I currently favor are those related to sleep, couple's sleep and parenting styles concerning children’s sleep. In Brazil, I gained experience by working as a researcher in the APHETO Laboratory at the University of Fortaleza (2003-2008) and as a clinical psychologist in the supervised clinical practicum of my bachelor studies in psychology and in Clinical Training in Humanistic-Phenomenological Psychotherapy, coordinated by Dr. Virginia Moreira (2005-2007). In Quebec, since the autumn of 2008, I have been developing my research and intervention skills by participating in the activities of the Psychology and Cultures Laboratory, coordinated by Dr. Yvan Leanza in collaboration with Dr. Marguerite Lavallée. I am also part of the Center of studies for sleep disorders, coordinated by Dr. Annie Vallieres, where I received, during October 2011 to January 2012, training in diagnostic assessment (SCID-IV and EDI). Between 2009 and 2010, I worked as a volunteer student intervening in consultations of the Ethnopsychiatry and Post Traumatic Stress Unit and of the Specialized Psychological Service Help for Immigrants and Refugees in Psychology School of Laval University.

Higher education: Psychologist professional diploma, University of Fortaleza, Brazil (2006)
